How did you start this store? Are you an artist yourself? What
kind of plan did you have? . . . These are some of the questions
I am often asked. The truth is simple but not what people expect
to hear.
I am not an artist, and opening a store of any kind was the farthest
thing from my imagination. But one afternoon in late September of
1979, a full blown idea landed in my head. I did not seek it and it
did not ask permission to come. The Creator’s Hands opened six
weeks later on November 15, 1979. We bloomed and thrived in our
original location for over 25 years. Early in our 26th year we made
a decision to move and we reopened in our current home on
April 1, 2005. In 1979, we represented twenty-five area consignors
in less than 500 square feet of space. Today, we sell the work of
over 250 American artists and craftspeople in 1800 square feet.
